Ford has launched two separate recall campaigns in the United States that together affect roughly 1.74 million vehicles. The problem stems from a software module that can overheat, causing the rear‑view camera image to display incorrectly when the vehicle is backing up.
First batch – about 850,000 vehicles
The initial notice covers the 2024‑2025 Ford Bronco and Edge SUVs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the electronic control unit that powers the rear‑camera may shut down due to excessive heat, leaving the driver with a blank or distorted view.
Second batch – about 890,000 vehicles
The follow‑up recall involves the 2024‑2025 Ford Escape and Explorer, as well as the Lincoln Corsair and Aviator crossovers. In these models the central‑display screen can flip or invert, which again leads to an inaccurate rear‑camera feed.
How Ford is responding
Ford, headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, says engineers are working on a software fix for both issues. At present, no ready‑to‑install repair has been released, so owners will need to schedule service appointments once a solution is available.
Recall history puts pressure on the automaker
Since the start of 2026, Ford has announced 17 recalls affecting more than 7.3 million vehicles worldwide. This places the company well ahead of its nearest competitor, Hyundai, which has issued five recalls covering roughly 700,000 cars.
