Voice directions sound more natural, and the system can “look ahead” through complex intersections, showing a preview of upcoming turns and lane changes. If an accident or sudden jam occurs, Maps warns you instantly and offers alternative routes, even quantifying the trade‑off – for example, “add 3 minutes to avoid heavy congestion.”

Google processes roughly five million traffic updates per second, constantly recalculating the optimal path. The new UI highlights detours with clear icons and estimated time differences.
