After a period of high anticipation, Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the C-Class electric. This launch marks a pivotal strategic shift for the German automaker as it integrates its internal combustion and electric vehicle (EV) lineups into a single, cohesive ecosystem.

A New Identity: Dropping the ‘EQ’

In a significant branding move, Mercedes-Benz has moved away from the ‘EQC Sedan’ nomenclature. The new model is simply called the C-Class electric, removing the ‘EQ’ suffix to align it more closely with its legendary combustion counterparts. This change isn’t just about the name; it extends to the design language as well.

Moving away from the controversial rounded curves seen on the EQE and EQS, the C-Class electric adopts a sharper, more athletic aesthetic, mirroring the design direction of the GLC EQ. The front fascia draws inspiration from timeless classics like the W111 and W108, featuring a striking illuminated grille with 1,050 LED points. The brand’s iconic star motif is woven throughout the vehicle, appearing in the headlights, taillights, and even integrated into the Panorama sunroof with 162 glowing elements.

Next-Gen Interior and MBUX Technology

Inside, the C-Class electric is a showcase of digital luxury. The centerpiece is the massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. In the high-end configuration, this consists of a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with two 14-inch touchscreens. The standard version maintains the central and driver displays but replaces the passenger screen with a sophisticated digital panel.

Comfort has also been prioritized with an extended wheelbase. Now measuring 2,962 mm (an increase of 97 mm), the cabin offers significantly more legroom, ensuring a first-class experience for all passengers.

Power, Performance, and Efficiency

The C 400 4MATIC electric variant is built for performance, utilizing dual electric motors that deliver a combined 490 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. This powerhouse can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.

Range and Charging Capabilities

  • Battery Capacity: 94 kWh
  • WLTP Range: Between 592 km and 762 km per charge
  • Aerodynamics: A drag coefficient of just 0.22, enhancing efficiency over the GLC EQ
  • Ultra-Fast Charging: With a DC charging capacity of up to 330 kW, the vehicle can add 325 km of range in only 10 minutes

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz is also developing a rear-wheel-drive version aimed at pushing the driving range up to 800 km.

S-Class Comfort and Precision Handling

Mercedes-Benz describes this as the “sportiest C-Class ever,” but it doesn’t sacrifice refinement. To achieve a ride quality comparable to the flagship S-Class, the vehicle employs an adaptive air suspension system. This system leverages Google Maps data and cloud computing to “read” the road ahead and adjust the suspension in real-time.

Agility is further enhanced by a rear-axle steering system (up to 4.5°), reducing the turning radius to just 11.2 meters. At low speeds, the rear wheels steer opposite to the front for maximum maneuverability, while at high speeds, they steer in the same direction to ensure rock-solid stability.

Availability

The C-Class electric will be available exclusively as a sedan, with no current plans for a wagon variant. North American customers can expect the model to hit US showrooms in the first half of 2027.

This launch signifies more than just a new model; it is a statement of intent from Mercedes-Benz to redefine the luxury electric experience through a blend of heritage design and futuristic technology.
