Exterior redesign

At the Brussels Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled a dramatically sharpened look for the 408. The new silhouette is slimmer and more contemporary, positioning the model alongside the latest European crossovers.

Lighting and front fascia

The most eye‑catching change is the removal of the traditional “lion muzzle” grille. In its place sits a layered LED headlamp system, reminiscent of the Skoda Enyaq’s design. Three slim daytime‑running light strips act as dynamic turn signals, while the main beam cluster is tucked lower behind a glossy black surround for a cleaner, unified front.

The radiator grille has been reshaped with a more expressive contour, and vertical LED strips run across its width. On higher‑spec trims, a glowing lion logo doubles as a rear‑radar sensor, further streamlining the front end.

Rear styling

The rear retains the familiar 408 silhouette but swaps the classic badge for a luminous “Peugeot” lettering – a first for the brand. Updated taillights integrate black‑gloss accents, and new alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 20 inches are offered, including a vibrant Flare Green finish that shifts from bright yellow in direct sunlight to deep blue in shade.

Interior updates

Inside, Peugeot refined material choices and seat upholstery, adding a premium feel without a price‑tag jump. The cockpit now features a 10‑inch digital instrument cluster with fresh graphics, while the familiar 10‑inch central infotainment screen remains.

Electric and hybrid powertrains

The upgraded 408 lineup emphasizes electrification. Three powertrain options are now available: a pure‑electric E‑408, a plug‑in hybrid (PHEV), and a conventional hybrid (HEV).

E‑408 pure electric

The electric variant carries a 58.2 kWh NMC battery paired with a 210 hp motor delivering 343 Nm of torque. WLTP range is rated at approximately 456 km. New features include a pre‑conditioning system that warms the battery before charging in cold weather, automatically triggered on the GT trim when approaching a charging station.

Convenient Plug & Charge technology allows hands‑free charging, while the Vehicle‑to‑Load function can supply up to 3.5 kW to external devices. An 80 % charge‑limit option for home AC charging helps extend battery longevity.

Plug‑in hybrid

The PHEV combines a 178 hp gasoline engine with a 123 hp electric motor, a 14.6 kWh lithium‑ion pack, and a 7‑speed dual‑clutch gearbox. Total system output reaches 237 hp, and the electric‑only range tops out at roughly 85 km.

Standard hybrid

The conventional hybrid uses a 143 hp petrol unit paired with a 6‑speed dual‑clutch transmission that incorporates mild electrification. Peugeot claims an impressive 5 L/100 km fuel consumption under WLTP testing.

Fuel efficiency and market outlook

With its refreshed design, advanced LED lighting, and a suite of low‑fuel‑consumption powertrains, the new Peugeot 408 is poised to attract eco‑conscious buyers. The hybrid variants, especially the 5 L/100 km model, could make the 408 a compelling option for markets like Vietnam, where fuel efficiency is a key purchasing factor.
