Bugatti’s ultra‑exclusive “Solitaire” program continues to turn heads after unveiling two singular models – the Brouillard and Veron FKP Hommage. The latest addition, the W16 Mistral La Perle Rare, is a coach‑built, white‑gold hypercar created entirely at the request of a single client.
From Pebble Beach to the Paint Shop
The concept was born at the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California, where Jasscha Straub, head of Bugatti’s Sur Mesure personalization studio, met the client who wanted a one‑of‑a‑kind Mistral. Originally envisioned in silver, the design team explored dozens of shades before settling on a striking blend of luminous gold and pristine white.
Vagues de Lumière – “Waves of Light” Paint
Named “Vagues de Lumière”, the paint celebrates how Bugatti’s supercars capture and refract light, echoing natural brilliance. The upper body panels receive a high‑gloss gold finish, while the lower sections are coated in a shimmering white. Hand‑applied striping, created with precision masking tape, adds a dynamic visual rhythm that runs the length of the car.
Both hues are also applied to the diamond‑cut alloy wheels, giving the entire vehicle a cohesive, almost ethereal appearance.
Interior that Mirrors the Exterior
The cabin follows the same colour story. Every carbon‑fiber component is painted white, punctuated with custom yellow accents. Controls such as the central knob, door handles and air‑vent levers are hand‑polished aluminium, delivering a tactile contrast to the sleek composites.
A unique artistic touch comes from Italian sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti’s “Dancing Elephant” – a miniature bronze piece that sits on the steering column and is subtly embroidered on the head‑rest stitching. The “La Perle Rare” emblem is boldly displayed between the seats, on the engine cover and beside the rear spoiler.
Performance Remains Pure Bugatti
Beyond its artistic façade, the Mistral retains the mechanical heart of the series: an 8‑litre W16 engine equipped with four turbochargers, delivering 1,578 hp and 1,600 Nm of torque. Coupled with a 7‑speed dual‑clutch transmission and permanent four‑wheel drive, the car rockets from 0‑100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds. While the engineering allows a top speed of 453 km/h, an electronic limiter caps it at 320 km/h for safety.
Exclusivity and Pricing
Bugatti plans to produce only 99 units of the Mistral, each priced from US$5.04 million. No two cars are identical, thanks to bespoke personalization. The La Perle Rare edition carries an undisclosed premium over the base price, underscoring its rarity.
With its breathtaking paint, handcrafted details, and staggering performance, the W16 Mistral La Perle Rare stands as a testament to Bugatti’s commitment to art, engineering, and ultimate exclusivity.
