Chinese EV giant BYD has quietly taken the midsize SUV Sealion 6 off its domestic product list. The model vanished from the Ocean Network section of BYD’s official Chinese website, confirming that the vehicle is no longer offered in its home market.

Earlier in October 2025, BYD retired the Song Plus – a model that shared the same platform and design as the Sealion 6 – and re‑badged it under the Sealion 6 name. Both the former Song Plus and the Sealion 6 have now been removed from the Chinese catalogue.

Why BYD Ended Sales in China

Local media suggest that BYD plans to consolidate the two nameplates into a single global model called Sealion 06. The move aims to streamline branding across all markets and to introduce a refreshed exterior design paired with the company’s latest technology platform.

According to CarNewsChina, the withdrawal is part of a broader product‑restructuring programme. BYD wants to offer customers more modern styling and the newest power‑train technologies.

Implications for International Markets

The decision comes at a time when BYD is shifting its focus outward. In 2025, the Chinese automaker recorded a historic milestone: more than one million vehicles were sold outside China, out of a total of 4.55 million units worldwide.

International deliveries surged 145 % in December 2024 compared with the same month a year earlier, underscoring BYD’s growing reliance on overseas demand as domestic growth begins to plateau.

Sealion 6 Availability in Vietnam and Other Regions

Stopping sales in China does not affect the model’s presence in Vietnam or other export markets. In Vietnam, the SUV is imported from BYD’s Thai factory and marketed as the Sealion 06.

The Vietnamese version is equipped with a plug‑in hybrid system (PHEV) that uses BYD’s fifth‑generation DM‑i drivetrain. A 1.5 L gasoline engine works alongside a 160 kW electric motor, delivering a combined electric‑plus‑gas range of up to 1,670 km.

The pure‑electric variant is built on an 800 V architecture, features a 12‑in‑one drive unit, and supports up to 237 kW of charging power.

Technical Specs and Pricing

  • Powertrain: 1.5 L engine + 160 kW electric motor (PHEV) or 800 V EV architecture
  • Combined range: up to 1,670 km (PHEV)</n
  • Fast‑charging capability: up to 237 kW
  • Available trims: two versions priced between VND 839 million and VND 936 million

By consolidating its model line‑up and focusing on markets with higher growth potential, BYD aims to keep its momentum in the global EV race while delivering fresher designs and cutting‑edge technology to international buyers.
