Ford Motor Company has reached an unprecedented milestone – and it’s not one to celebrate. The American automaker has broken its own record for the number of vehicle recalls in a single calendar year, with a staggering 153 separate recall actions issued throughout 2025.

Record-Breaking Recall Numbers

According to Carscoops, this surpasses Ford’s previous high of 89 recalls in 2024. It also significantly exceeds the 77 recalls issued by General Motors in 2014, which previously held the record. These recalls affect nearly 13 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles across the United States.

Remarkably, the number of Ford and Lincoln vehicles impacted by these recalls – almost 13 million – is higher than the combined total of the next nine automakers on the list, which collectively affected just over 12.9 million vehicles.

A Recall Every Few Days

To put this into perspective, Ford issued an average of over 0.4 recalls per day in 2025. That translates to a recall notice being sent to American drivers approximately every 2.5 days. On average, over 35,414 Ford vehicles required recall attention each day, equating to roughly 1,476 vehicles per hour or about 24.6 vehicles per minute.

How Ford Compares to Other Automakers

Toyota ranks second in the U.S. for total recalls, issuing 15 recalls affecting over 3.22 million vehicles. Stellantis (excluding Maserati) follows in third place with 53 recalls impacting nearly 2.78 million vehicles. Honda and Acura (21 recalls, over 1.56 million vehicles affected) are fourth, while Hyundai and Genesis (21 recalls, nearly 1.08 million vehicles affected) round out the top five.

Common Recall Issues

Ford leads the pack not only in the sheer number of recalls but also in the scale of individual recall campaigns. Two separate recalls, each affecting approximately 1.45 million vehicles, are related to defects in the rearview camera. Another significant recall, impacting nearly 1.08 million Ford vehicles, was resolved through an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

Toyota’s largest recall, affecting 1.02 million vehicles, also stemmed from a rearview camera issue.

Why So Many Recalls?

While the sheer volume of Ford recalls is concerning, the company suggests that improved tracking and reporting capabilities play a role. Modern manufacturing methods also allow for more detailed control and traceability than in the past.

Regardless of the underlying reasons, the massive number of recalls and the sheer volume of affected vehicles are undoubtedly raising questions among American consumers about the quality control processes at Ford.
