At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Chinese automaker Geely unveiled the Galaxy Cruiser concept – a bold statement that echoes the iconic silhouette of the Land Rover Defender.

Design Inspiration
Geely says the cruiser’s exterior is 95% identical to the future Defender, from the classic round headlights to the robust grille. The front fascia, wheel arches and side steps are deliberate nods to the British off‑road legend.

Exterior Features
The concept showcases a host of rugged details: independent wheel‑by‑wheel steering that allows each tyre to rotate up to 360°, an 800 mm water‑wading capability, and a side cargo door framed by a stylised wheel‑arch cover. A rear step platform, while largely decorative, reinforces the vehicle’s adventure‑ready stance.

Additional storage solutions resemble those found on premium UK SUVs, including a “Geely Design” auxiliary luggage box and a fold‑out side ladder that appears to double as a spare‑wheel or accessory locker.

Interior Luxury
Inside, the Galaxy Cruiser adopts a high‑tech, upscale cabin. A three‑spoke, leather‑wrapped steering wheel sits above a leather‑trimmed instrument cluster populated with multiple digital displays. When the driver looks forward, the primary gauges shrink, letting a heads‑up display (HUD) project essential data.

The centre console features a large, floating touchscreen plus a wide armrest equipped with dual wireless‑charging pads, yacht‑style toggle levers and a dedicated drive‑mode dial that also controls traction settings.

Seating for five is wrapped in premium white leather, with rear seats that inherit many of the front’s amenities. The cargo area is lined with suede‑like material, offers generous volume, and may support a 40‑20‑40 split (though the final production layout is not yet confirmed). A built‑in cooler compartment and motorised trunk‑floor height adjustment add practicality.

Technology & Performance
Built on Geely’s SEA‑R platform—the same architecture that underpins the Zeekr 9X—the Cruiser integrates AI to optimise energy consumption and seamlessly switch between driving modes.

Geely boasts a suite of pioneering capabilities: the vehicle can float on water for up to two hours, cruise at 8.5 km/h on the surface, and is protected by a “Golden Short Blade” bullet‑proof battery that charges from 10% to 80% in just ten minutes.

Launch Timeline
After debuting in Shanghai, the Galaxy Cruiser concept made its UK premiere this spring. Geely plans a commercial launch by the end of 2026, with the first production models slated for the British market in 2028.
