Genesis sold nearly 1.5 million cars in its first decade and now boasts growth faster than any luxury brand. Explore its EV lineup, Magma performance series, and ambitious future plans – read the full story now.

Since its debut in 2015, Hyundai’s premium off‑shoot Genesis has sold close to 1.5 million vehicles worldwide. In the past ten years, the brand’s sales growth has outpaced that of any other luxury automaker in history, according to CEO Jose Munoz.

Rapid Growth that Defies the Norm

Munoz says Genesis’s climb has been “faster than any luxury brand ever recorded.” The rapid uptake comes despite an ongoing debate in many markets about whether Genesis should be classified as a true luxury marque or a high‑end premium brand.

Introducing Magma: Genesis’s High‑Performance Sub‑Series

While rivals such as BMW and Mercedes‑Benz spin off dedicated performance arms (M and AMG), Genesis chose a different path. The new “Magma” line is presented as an extension of the brand’s sporty character, not a completely separate entity.

GV60 Magma – Power Meets Electrification

The GV60, Genesis’s first electric model, debuted the Magma badge. Equipped with a dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive system that delivers a combined 650 hp and 790 Nm of torque (when the boost mode is activated), the GV60 Magma becomes the most powerful Genesis to date. It sprints from 0‑200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds and tops out at 264 km/h.

Going Head‑to‑Head with BMW M and Mercedes‑AMG

With its performance credentials, the Magma family will sit alongside the likes of BMW M and Mercedes‑AMG. Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke emphasizes that Magma models will retain Genesis’s hallmark luxury while adding a distinct, athletic flair.

Magma Across the Entire Line‑up

Instead of limiting Magma to a single model, Genesis plans to offer the high‑performance trim on all its vehicles. Upcoming Magma variants include the G70, G80, GV80, and G90, as well as a concept‑level Magma GT.

Future Powertrains: Hybrid and Extended‑Range EVs

Initially focused solely on electric cars, Genesis will introduce its first hybrid model in 2026, followed by an extended‑range electric vehicle slated for 2027.

New SUVs on the Horizon

The flagship GV90 – a large electric SUV – remains on track for launch despite previous delays. A luxury off‑road SUV, based on the X‑Gran Equator concept, is expected to arrive in 2027.

North American Momentum

In the United States, Genesis recently surpassed Infiniti in sales and is closing the gap with Lincoln and Acura. The brand’s North American performance signals a strong foothold in a highly competitive market.

Ambitious European Goals

Europe has yet to match Genesis’s US success, but the company has set a bold target: a 650 % increase in European sales over the next five years.

With a clear roadmap that blends electrification, high performance, and upscale design, Genesis is positioning itself as a formidable contender in the global luxury‑car arena.
