The Huawei Maextro S800 luxury hybrid receives a power boost and new tech upgrades, positioning it against Maybach and Rolls‑Royce. Discover the details now!

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirmed on February 7 that the premium Huawei‑JAC Maextro S800 EREV (Extended‑Range Electric Vehicle) has undergone a notable technical refresh. The changes focus on power, efficiency, and high‑end amenities, sharpening its stance against ultra‑luxury rivals such as the Mercedes‑Maybach S‑Class and Rolls‑Royce Ghost.

Engine and Powertrain Enhancements

The most significant update is the 1.5‑liter gasoline engine, now acting as an on‑board generator. Its output climbs slightly from 170 hp to 173 hp, providing a smoother transition between electric and hybrid modes. Buyers can still choose between two drivetrain configurations:

  • Two‑motor version: Combined output reaches 530 hp.
  • Three‑motor version: A staggering 852 hp, delivering supercar‑level acceleration.

Both setups retain the vehicle’s massive 3.2‑tonne curb weight while delivering responsive performance.

Luxury Features and Smart Interior

The Maextro S800’s cabin remains a showcase of cutting‑edge technology. It runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS ALPS 2.0, integrating navigation, infotainment, and vehicle controls into a seamless experience. The audio system, Huawei Sound, boasts 43 speakers and close to 3,000 W of power, turning the interior into a concert‑hall environment.

Other high‑end amenities include:

  • Zero‑gravity seats reclined to 148.5°, offering unparalleled comfort on long journeys.
  • Built‑in refrigerator for drinks and snacks.
  • ADS 4.0 autonomous driving suite, enhanced with four LiDAR sensors for improved perception.

Dimensions, Aerodynamics, and Battery

The car’s footprint stays the same at 5,480 mm (length) by 2,000 mm (width), but the roof height drops by 6 mm to 1,536 mm, lowering the centre of gravity and giving the silhouette a sleeker, more aerodynamic look.

The energy storage system uses a NMC battery supplied by CATL, now slightly reduced to 63.262 kWh. This still yields an electric‑only range of 258–315 km, depending on driving mode, and a total possible travel distance exceeding 1,200 km when combining electric and fuel power.

Pricing and Market Position

In the Chinese market, the Maextro S800 is priced between 708,000 NDT and 1,018,000 NDT, roughly US$102,000–$146,700. This positions it squarely in the ultra‑luxury sedan segment, challenging established names while offering next‑generation connectivity and sustainability.

With the latest upgrades, Huawei aims to redefine what a luxury hybrid can be—blending high performance, advanced AI‑driven features, and eco‑friendly technology under one roof.
