British sports‑car marque Lotus has just shifted gears, unveiling its first plug‑in hybrid super‑SUV – the Lotus Eletre X Hybrid. While the all‑electric Eletre debuted earlier, the new model blends a 2.0‑litre turbocharged engine with a 70 kWh battery and dual electric motors, delivering a combined 939 hp.

Design tweaks for a hybrid world
The Eletre X Hybrid retains the sleek silhouette of its pure‑electric sibling, but gains distinctive front‑end modifications. Additional air intakes sit below the bumper, replacing the previous cap‑over vents, and the active “petal” grille has been swapped for larger rectangular ducts, improving airflow to the hybrid powertrain.

Luxury‑focused interior
Inside, Lotus continues its minimalist philosophy. A horizontal instrument cluster spans the dashboard, complemented by two slim 12.6‑inch displays for driver and front passenger. Centerstage is a 15.1‑inch OLED touchscreen that controls infotainment, navigation and vehicle settings. Optional upgrades include premium Alcantara upholstery, carbon‑fiber trim, KEF audio system and high‑grade seats.

Powertrain and performance
The vehicle sits on Lotus’s new X‑Hybrid platform, which integrates a 9‑volt electrical architecture, a 70 kWh lithium‑ion pack and two electric motors. The 2.0‑litre turbo engine functions primarily as a generator, feeding power to the battery while also delivering direct torque to the front wheels via a single‑speed reduction gear when needed. The result is a blistering 0‑100 km/h sprint in just 3.3 seconds and a 200 km/h top speed reached in 10.5 seconds.

Electric‑only capability
On pure electric mode, the 70 kWh pack provides roughly 350 km (WLTP) of range. When the fuel tank is full as well, total cruising distance exceeds 1,200 km, while WLTP‑measured fuel consumption drops to an astonishing 0.07 L/100 km under ideal test conditions.

Ultra‑fast charging
Although Lotus has not released official DC‑fast‑charging figures, the Chinese‑spec version supports a 6C charge rate – about 420 kW. At that speed, the Eletre X Hybrid can jump from 20 % to 80 % state‑of‑charge in roughly nine minutes, outpacing even the pure‑electric Eletre.

Chassis, safety and weight
Hybrid technology does not add much heft; curb weight remains close to the electric version, ranging between 2,575 kg and 2,626 kg depending on equipment. The SUV is equipped with Lotus’s 48 V active anti‑roll system, a twin‑chamber air‑sprung suspension and adaptive dampers with two‑valve control, ensuring both comfort and razor‑sharp handling.

Global rollout
The Eletre X Hybrid will debut in China on 2 September under the name “For Me”. It will then roll out across Europe and the United Kingdom before entering other international markets.
Lotus eyes Vietnam
Lotus confirmed plans to enter the Vietnamese market through local distributor Tasco Auto, with an expected launch in the first quarter of 2026. Given the regional appetite for higher ground clearance and electrified powertrains, the first Lotus model arriving in Vietnam will likely be the Eletre SUV – potentially both the pure‑electric and hybrid variants.
