Mazda introduced its brand‑new all‑electric SUV, the CX‑6e, at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. Built on the platform of the EZ‑60 sedan developed with China’s Changan, the CX‑6e marks a significant step in Mazda’s global electrification strategy.

Modern Design Meets Mazda’s Kodo Language

The CX‑6e sports a sleek, contemporary silhouette that blends Mazda’s signature Kodo design cues with futuristic details. Its sculpted front fascia, sharp LED lighting, and aerodynamic roofline give the midsize EV a confident road presence.

High‑Tech Interior

Inside, the cabin revolves around a massive 26‑inch central display that replaces the traditional instrument cluster. A head‑up display projects key information onto the windshield, while gesture‑controlled interfaces let drivers adjust settings without touching a button. Premium touches include integrated ceiling speakers and a camera system that replaces conventional rear‑view mirrors.

Powertrain and Performance

The CX‑6e is powered by a 78 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) battery coupled with a rear‑mounted electric motor delivering up to 258 hp (190 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. Mazda claims an WLTP‑rated range of roughly 484 km on a full charge, positioning the model competitively against other midsize electric SUVs.

Charging Capabilities

Rapid DC charging supports up to 195 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10 % to 80 % in about 24 minutes. AC charging is available at a maximum of 11 kW, making the CX‑6e flexible for home or workplace charging. Unlike rivals such as the Tesla Model Y or Volvo EX‑60, the CX‑6e offers rear‑wheel drive only—no all‑wheel‑drive option.

Target Markets and Pricing

Mazda will sell the CX‑6e exclusively in Europe and China, with deliveries slated to begin in summer 2026. In Germany, the entry‑level price is set at €49,990 (approximately 1.2 billion VND). The model will compete directly with the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3 and Audi Q6 e‑tron in the rapidly growing European EV SUV segment.

Why No US Launch?

Production will take place in China at Mazda’s joint facility with Changan. Mazda cites tariff barriers and a distinct market strategy as reasons for skipping the United States. American enthusiasts would need to rely on importers or await a dedicated US‑spec EV from Mazda in the future.

Verdict

The CX‑6e offers an eye‑catching design, a tech‑laden interior and a respectable driving range, making it a solid addition to Mazda’s EV lineup. However, the lack of all‑wheel‑drive, modest cargo space and performance that trails some rivals may limit its appeal among premium electric‑SUV buyers.
