Launch event and timing
Mercedes‑Benz Malaysia announced the “Class of its own” event, scheduled for 15–18 January, where the third‑generation CLA (internal code C178) will be unveiled.
New platform and powertrain
The C178 is built on the brand‑new Mercedes‑Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) and features an 800 V electric architecture, enabling DC fast‑charging up to 320 kW.
Powertrain options
- CLA250+: rear‑wheel‑drive with a single motor producing 272 hp (200 kW) and 335 Nm of torque. 0‑100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, top speed 210 km/h.
- CLA350: dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive, adding a 109 hp front motor for a combined 354 hp (262 kW) and 515 Nm. 0‑100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
Battery and range
Both variants share an 85 kWh nickel‑manganese‑cobalt (NMC) battery (usable capacity). Under WLTP, the CLA250+ achieves 694–792 km, while the CLA350 reaches 672–771 km. The figures are made possible by the second‑generation EDU 2.0 two‑speed transmission and, on the CLA350, a decouplable front motor for efficiency.
Charging speed
With a maximum 320 kW DC charge, the car can add roughly 325 km of range in just ten minutes. AC charging is limited to 11 kW.
Interior tech – MBUX Superscreen
The cabin showcases a three‑screen MBUX Superscreen that stretches across the entire dashboard, powered by AI‑driven software for a seamless digital experience.
Future market outlook
Given its impressive range and the tightening of gasoline‑vehicle restrictions in major Vietnamese cities, the 2026 Mercedes CLA electric could soon be introduced to Vietnam, following its Malaysian debut.
