Mitsubishi partners with Foxtron to launch a powerful all‑electric SUV for Australia and New Zealand, delivering up to 400 hp and a 516 km range. Learn more today.

What the new Mitsubishi EV means for the market

Mitsubishi Motors has taken a decisive step toward electrifying its lineup by signing a preliminary agreement with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, the electric‑vehicle arm of Hon Hai (Foxconn). The two firms will co‑develop a brand‑new all‑electric SUV that is slated for release in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026.

Foxtron partnership details

The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2025. Foxtron will lead the vehicle’s development, while production will be handled by its long‑time partner Yulon Motor at a plant in Taiwan. This joint effort aligns with Mitsubishi’s broader strategy to expand its electric‑vehicle (EV) portfolio ahead of its 2030 sustainability targets.

Design language and dimensions

Although Mitsubishi has not yet disclosed the official model name, early specifications reveal a compact crossover measuring 4,315 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width and 1,535 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. Compared with the locally sold Xforce, the new EV is 75 mm shorter but gains 150 mm in wheelbase, promising a roomier cabin.

Stylistically, the SUV features a full‑width LED light strip, 18‑inch or 20‑inch alloy wheels, concealed door handles and a panoramic roof, giving it a sleek, modern look.

Powertrain options and range

Two trim levels are planned:

  • Standard: A single rear‑motor delivering 229 horsepower.
  • Premium: A dual‑motor setup providing all‑wheel drive and a hefty 400 horsepower.

Both versions will be equipped with a 57.5 kWh battery pack. Under the NEDC cycle, the SUV can travel between 466 km and 516 km on a single charge, while WLTP figures range from 400 km to 430 km.

High‑tech interior

The cabin will showcase a 15.6‑inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 9.2‑inch driver‑information display. Audio options include either a 7‑speaker or a premium 12‑speaker system, catering to audiophiles and everyday commuters alike.

Advanced safety and driver‑assist features

Standard Advanced Driver‑Assistance Systems (ADAS) will feature adaptive cruise control, lane‑keeping assistance and rear‑cross‑traffic alert, helping to keep drivers safe on both city streets and highways.

Launch timeline and market expectations

Mitsubishi has not yet announced a final model name, detailed specifications or pricing. However, the automaker has signalled that more information will be released in the coming months as the partnership moves from concept to final agreement. The goal is clear: begin production and roll out the vehicle to Australian and New Zealand dealers by the end of 2026.

What’s next?

Industry analysts expect the new Mitsubishi EV to benefit from Foxtron’s existing Model B platform—designed by Italy’s Pininfarina and built on Foxtron’s open‑source MIH architecture. Even without a formal confirmation, the shared technology could accelerate development and reduce costs, giving Mitsubishi a competitive edge in the fast‑growing Australasian EV market.

Stay tuned for updates as Mitsubishi and Foxtron reveal more details on this ambitious electric SUV.
