December 2025: Mitsubishi Takes the Lead

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Mitsubishi sold 8,960 units in December, surpassing Toyota’s 8,329. Remarkably, Mitsubishi achieved this with just seven models, whereas Toyota relied on a lineup of sixteen.

  • Destinator: 2,377 units
  • Xpander: 2,575 units
  • Xforce: 3,163 units

These three models alone accounted for the majority of Mitsubishi’s December success, pushing the brand ahead of its longtime rival.

Xforce Beats Toyota Yaris Cross in the B‑Segment SUV

The battle for the best‑selling B‑segment gasoline SUV was equally intense. By the end of November, Toyota’s Yaris Cross held a lead of 1,117 units (13,208 vs. 12,091). However, Xforce surged in December, reaching 3,163 sales while Yaris Cross fell to 1,393. The cumulative totals for 2025 placed Xforce at 15,254 units, overtaking Yaris Cross’s 14,601.

Mazda CX‑8 Overtakes Hyundai Santa Fe in the D‑Segment

In the larger D‑segment, Ford Everest remained the clear leader, but the second spot saw a surprise. Mazda’s CX‑8 climbed from 296 units in November to 551 in December, ending the year with 2,864 deliveries—ahead of Hyundai’s Santa Fe, which closed at 2,622.

VinFast Limo Green Becomes Vietnam’s Top‑Selling MPV

Electric‑only MPV VinFast’s Limo Green entered the market in September 2025, delivering 2,120 units initially and jumping to 4,160 in the following month. By year‑end, the model amassed 16,146 units, overtaking the long‑standing MPV champion Mitsubishi Xpander, which finished 2025 with 19,891 units (still the best gasoline MPV).

VinFast announced a total of 27,127 Limo Green deliveries, securing the overall MPV crown and placing the electric vehicle among the top‑selling cars in Vietnam.

Implications for the Vietnamese Auto Market

These rapid shifts highlight the fluid nature of Vietnam’s consumer preferences. Brands that adapt quickly—by launching attractive new models or embracing electrification—can capture market share fast. Conversely, manufacturers that lag risk losing relevance in a market that rewards innovation and value.

Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring these trends and understanding how emerging models reshape Vietnam’s automotive future.
