Mercedes‑Benz is fast‑tracking the refresh of its compact SUV line‑up, and the next‑gen GLA is already hitting the test tracks in Scandinavia.

Bold New Styling
The prototype rolls in a matte black‑white camouflage wrap, revealing a closed‑off front grille tucked above a wide air intake. A distinctive light‑cluster framed by a three‑pointed star motif hints at the production‑ready look. Aerodynamic body lines flow into hidden‑handle doors, while a sleek roof‑line and five‑spoke wheels reinforce the EV‑focused silhouette.

Superscreen Cockpit
Inside, the cabin borrows elements from the CLA and GLB refreshes. The centerpiece is a triple‑screen MBUX Superscreen layout: a 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster, a 14‑inch central infotainment display, and a 14‑inch passenger‑facing screen that mirrors the driver’s view. Mercedes’ new virtual assistant, represented by a lively avatar, can be summoned with voice commands.

Powertrain Options
The upcoming GLA will mirror the drivetrain choices of its larger siblings. The GLA 250+ is expected to feature a rear‑mounted electric motor delivering 268 hp and 335 Nm of torque. The top‑end GLA 350 4MATIC will add a second motor for an all‑wheel‑drive output of up to 349 hp and 515 Nm.

Battery, Charging and Range
Both electric variants are likely to be equipped with an 85 kWh pack operating at 800 V, supporting up to 320 kW DC fast‑charging. Test‑bench data showed a 55 % state‑of‑charge equating to roughly 268 km (167 mi) of range, while the projected full‑load range sits around 487 km (303 mi). Real‑world figures may differ, especially when compared with the CLA’s 793 km and the GLB’s 632 km claims.

Hybrid Variant
In addition to pure‑electric models, a plug‑in hybrid version will join the line‑up. It pairs a 1.5‑litre four‑cylinder engine with a 1.3 kWh battery and an integrated electric motor housed in an eight‑speed dual‑clutch gearbox. Output ranges from 134 hp to 187 hp, with an extra 30 hp boost available from the electric assist.

With its cutting‑edge technology and flexible powertrain lineup, the new Mercedes‑Benz GLA aims to capture buyers seeking a premium compact crossover that can go electric, hybrid or stay conventional.
