European Debut at the Brussels Motor Show
At the Brussels Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the ninth‑generation Hilux for Europe, introducing two electrified powertrains: a 2.8 L diesel mild‑hybrid and a fully electric BEV. Both variants had already been launched in Asia, but their appearance in Europe shows Toyota’s push to meet tighter emissions rules.

The all‑electric Hilux is equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery pack and two electric motors—205 Nm on the front axle and 268 Nm on the rear—providing permanent four‑wheel drive. Toyota cites a WLTP range of roughly 258 km, which can stretch to about 380 km in city‑centric driving.
Performance and Practicality

- Off‑road capability: Retains a 212 mm ground clearance and 700 mm water‑wading depth, plus a dedicated off‑road drive mode that exploits instant torque and regenerative braking.

Both the hybrid and electric Hilux adopt Toyota’s new “Cyber Sumo” styling, developed by the Australian design team. The look emphasizes bold, square surfaces and a modern, large‑pickup silhouette. The BEV can be identified by its closed‑frame grille and re‑shaped front bumper.
Upgraded Cabin
The interior receives a tech boost with a 12.3‑inch digital instrument cluster, a large central touchscreen, and a steering wheel borrowed from the latest Land Cruiser. While the cabin is packed with electronic safety systems, Toyota retains many tactile buttons for everyday functions.
Beyond the Battery – Hydrogen Plans
Toyota confirmed that a hydrogen‑fuel‑cell version of the Hilux is already being prototyped, underscoring the brand’s multi‑track strategy for future pickups.
What About Vietnam?
Because of the modest electric range and lower payload, the BEV is unlikely to be sold in Vietnam. The new Hilux will launch there later this month with only the diesel (including a 48 V mild‑hybrid) configuration.
