Toyota Vietnam (TMV) has announced significant leadership changes effective from the beginning of 2026. In a landmark move, the company will welcome Tien Quoc Hao as its new President, marking the first time a person of Vietnamese origin will hold this position.

Tien Quoc Hao: A Global Toyota Leader

Prior to his appointment as President of TMV, Mr. Tien Quoc Hao served as Deputy Managing Director for the Asia region and Deputy Managing Director of Toyota’s Financial Sales Division. He also held the position of Chairman of Toyota Asia, based in Singapore.

Mr. Hao concurrently serves as the Managing Director of Toyota Financial Services (TFS) Asia. His extensive career with Toyota began in 1999 at Toyota Canada, where he has since held numerous senior leadership roles in sales and marketing for both Toyota and Lexus across North America, Japan, China, and Asia.

Educational Background and Expertise

The new President of TMV holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Richard Ivey School of Business, and a Chartered Director certification from the DeGroote School of Business (all in Canada). This strong academic foundation complements his decades of experience within the automotive industry.

Changes in the General Director Role

Effective January 2026, Osamu Hirata will succeed Keita Nakano as the General Director of Toyota Vietnam. Mr. Nakano served as General Director of TMV from February 2023 to December 2025.

Osamu Hirata: A Veteran of Toyota’s Global Strategy

Mr. Hirata joined Toyota Motor Corporation in 1995 after graduating from Waseda University and spent nearly nine years in the International Business Planning Division.

In 2004, he was appointed as Deputy Head of a department before moving to Singapore in 2005 to serve as Deputy Head of Product Planning for Toyota Asia Pacific until 2008. He subsequently held key positions in global and North American strategic planning, including Group Leader for the North American Department and Senior Executive Coordinator at Toyota Motor North America.

Extensive Experience in North American Operations

Mr. Hirata continued to hold important roles such as Vice President (from 2016), Project General Manager, and General Manager in Toyota Motor North America’s sales planning and operations. Most recently, he served as Corporate Vice President, responsible for Toyota and Lexus sales operations in North America until 2023. In 2024, he was appointed as General Manager of the Sales Operations and Planning Division of Toyota Motor Corporation.

These leadership changes signal Toyota Vietnam’s continued commitment to growth and innovation in the Vietnamese automotive market, and the appointment of Mr. Hao represents a significant milestone for diversity and representation within the company.
