In Vietnam, compact multi‑purpose vehicles (MPVs) have become a favorite among families and urban drivers. Priced around VND 600 million, these small MPVs offer a high ground clearance, roomy interiors, and flexible seating arrangements that suit a variety of needs.

Post‑Lunar New Year Promotions
Following the Tet holiday, manufacturers launched a wave of promotions, handing out discounts that translate into tens of millions of dong. Below is a snapshot of the most attractive offers available in February 2026.
Mitsubishi Xpander – The Market Champion
- Xpander AT Premium (new edition): 50% off registration fee plus a VND 20 million fuel voucher, reaching a total incentive of roughly VND 53 million.
- Xpander Cross (upgraded): similar package, with total savings estimated at VND 55 million.
Toyota’s Small MPVs
- Veloz Cross: registration‑fee support worth VND 64‑66 million, varying by trim.
- Avanza Premio: discount of VND 56‑60 million.
Hyundai Stargazer – Clearance Deals
As the brand prepares to launch the next‑generation Stargazer, dealers are clearing out older stock. The most generous incentive for the Indonesian‑built model tops out at VND 96 million.

Kia Carens
Kia is offering a discount range of VND 10‑30 million for its three‑trim Carens line (prices from VND 599 million to VND 669 million).
Suzuki XL7 Hybrid
The only hybrid MPV in this segment, the XL7 Hybrid, comes with a 100% waiver of registration fees and a 3.5‑year maintenance package, equating to around VND 70 million in value.

Sales Snapshot – January 2026
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) and TC Motor, Mitsubishi Xpander sold 1,938 units in January, accounting for more than 42% of the small MPV market. Its closest rival, Toyota Veloz Cross, moved 861 units. Kia Carens ranked third with 573 units, followed by Suzuki XL7 Hybrid (427), Hyundai Stargazer (421), Honda BR‑V (313) and Toyota Avanza Premio (69).
When broader MPV categories are considered—including medium‑size models such as Hyundai Custin (140 units), Toyota Innova Cross (546 units) and Kia Carnival (386 units)—Xpander’s 1,938 units still represent roughly 34% of the overall gasoline‑powered MPV market.
Rising Competition from Electric MPVs
Despite its dominant position, Xpander faces mounting pressure from fully electric MPVs. VinFast’s Limo Green entered the market just four months ago and quickly eroded Xpander’s lead. This year, VinFast plans to expand the lineup with a seven‑seat VF MPV, which is expected to attract considerable interest.
Another electric contender, the BYD M6, has become the brand’s best‑selling model in Vietnam, further diversifying consumer choice.
Outlook
While Mitsubishi Xpander remains the flagship gasoline MPV, the rapid growth of electric alternatives suggests the segment could fragment. Automakers will need to balance attractive pricing, incentives, and the shift toward greener powertrains to maintain market share.
