75 Volkswagen cars in Vietnam are being recalled over Takata airbag concerns. Learn the details and how owners can get a free inspection – act now!
The Vietnam Register of Motor Vehicles has issued an urgent recall for 75 Volkswagen cars manufactured between November 1, 2015 and December 31, 2019. The recall targets the Takata airbag inflator located in the steering wheel, a component that has been linked to serious safety issues worldwide.
Who Is Affected?
The affected fleet, imported and distributed by Global Auto Co., includes:

- 1 Volkswagen EOS
- 6 Volkswagen Golf
- 68 Volkswagen Passat
What Is the Problem?
Takata’s airbag inflator can deteriorate when exposed to moisture over time, especially in hot and humid climates. If the inflator ruptures during deployment, metal fragments may be hurled into the cabin, posing a potential injury risk to occupants.
Why Does It Matter?
Although no injuries have been reported in Vietnam yet, Volkswagen has opted for a precautionary approach, recalling every vehicle that could be impacted. The company aims to replace the faulty inflator before any incident occurs.
How the Recall Works
Owners are advised to bring their vehicles to any authorized Volkswagen dealership. The inspection and replacement process is expected to take roughly 1.0–1.5 hours per car. The program began on February 10, 2024, and will run through February 10, 2029.

What About Vehicles Distributed by Other Parties?
If a Volkswagen model was sold by a different importer but is listed in Volkswagen AG’s global recall notice, owners should still visit an authorized dealer. The dealer will coordinate with Volkswagen AG for approval and arrange the necessary repairs.
The Bigger Picture: Takata’s Global Crisis
The Takata airbag saga has become an industry‑wide nightmare, prompting massive recalls from brands such as Honda and Toyota. The root cause is the inflator’s propensity to crack and release sharp metal shards, a defect that continues to surface in new recall announcements.
Next Steps for Owners
If you own one of the listed models, schedule a service appointment as soon as possible. The repair is free of charge, and it’s the fastest way to ensure your vehicle remains safe on the road.
Stay informed, stay safe, and drive with confidence.
