Swedish automaker Volvo Cars announced that its next‑generation electric SUV, the EX60, will hit global showrooms on 21 January. The new model marks a decisive shift toward a software‑centric strategy, positioning Volvo alongside the industry’s most digitally advanced brands.

Google Gemini AI at the wheel

The EX60 is the first Volvo to come standard with Google’s Gemini AI assistant. Unlike conventional voice commands that rely on fixed phrases, Gemini lets drivers converse naturally with the vehicle’s infotainment and control systems, making every interaction feel more like a dialogue than a command.

Impressive range and ultra‑fast charging

Volvo claims the all‑wheel‑drive EX60 will deliver up to 810 km (about 500 miles) on a single charge – roughly the distance from Hanoi to Da Nang. Paired with a 400 kW DC fast‑charging capability, the SUV can add around 340 km (210 miles) of driving in just ten minutes.

Under the hood: HuginCore and top‑tier processors

The vehicle runs on Volvo’s proprietary HuginCore architecture, which unites the high‑voltage battery system, domain controllers, a central computing unit and a bespoke software ecosystem. Processing power comes from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit platform and Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Orin, delivering more than 250 trillion operations per second.

Continuous improvement via OTA updates

Thanks to its robust hardware foundation, the EX60 will receive over‑the‑air software upgrades throughout its lifespan, enhancing features and safety without a visit to the dealership. Volvo also bundles four years of unlimited data connectivity, ensuring the AI assistant, navigation, and remote services stay up‑to‑date.

What this means for buyers

With a blend of AI‑driven convenience, long‑range capability, and rapid charging, the EX60 aims to appeal to urban commuters and long‑distance travelers alike. Its open software platform hints at future enhancements that could keep the vehicle feeling fresh for years to come.

Ready to experience the next step in electric mobility? Stay tuned for the official launch on 21 January and be among the first to drive the Volvo EX60.
