BYD pulls the Sealion 6 SUV from its China lineup as it shifts focus to overseas markets. Learn what this means for Vietnamese buyers – find out more today!

Chinese electric‑vehicle giant BYD announced that its mid‑size SUV, the Sealion 6, has been removed from the domestic product catalogue.

What happened to the Sealion 6?

Earlier this year, BYD merged the Song Plus model into the Sealion 6 line, rebranding the two under a single name. Today, both the Song Plus and the Sealion 6 have vanished from BYD’s official Ocean Network page for the Chinese market.

Possible rebranding for the global market

Local media suggest BYD will consolidate the two under the badge “Sealion 06” to create a uniform identity for the C‑segment SUV across all export markets. The new name has yet to appear on any Chinese‑market listings.

Why is BYD reshaping its lineup?

According to CarNewsChina, the move is part of a broader product restructuring aimed at delivering fresher exterior designs and the latest technology platforms to Chinese consumers.

Shifting focus to overseas markets

2025 marked a milestone for BYD, with overseas sales surpassing one million units out of a total of 4.55 million vehicles sold worldwide. In December alone, international deliveries jumped 145 % year‑on‑year, highlighting BYD’s growing reliance on export markets as domestic growth slows.

Impact on Vietnam and other regions

The withdrawal of the Sealion 6 from China will not affect its availability elsewhere. In Vietnam, the model is imported from BYD’s Thai factory and marketed as the Sealion 06. It arrives as a plug‑in hybrid (PHEV) equipped with BYD’s fifth‑generation DM‑i powertrain – a 1.5 L gasoline engine paired with a 160 kW electric motor, delivering a combined range of up to 1 670 km.

A pure‑electric version also exists, built on an 800 V architecture with a 12‑in‑1 drive system and capable of 237 kW fast charging.

Vietnamese buyers can choose from two trims priced between VND 839 million and VND 936 million.
