A software bug may cause Genesis dashboards and infotainment screens to black out for up to 10 seconds when HD Radio is used. Update your vehicle now.

Luxury‑brand Genesis has launched a recall that impacts nearly 84,000 vehicles sold in the United States. The issue stems from a software conflict that can cause the digital instrument cluster and central infotainment screen to freeze or go completely dark for up to ten seconds whenever the HD Radio function is active.

Which models are affected?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the recall covers six model lines from the 2025‑2026 model years, including:

  • 2025‑2026 Genesis G80
  • 2026 Genesis G80 Electrified
  • 2026 Genesis GV60
  • 2026 Genesis GV70
  • 2026 Genesis GV70 Electrified
  • 2025‑2026 Genesis GV80

In total, 83,877 vehicles are subject to the recall.

What exactly goes wrong?

The root cause is a logic error in the central controller’s software. Data from both the HD Radio and analog radio modules is written to the same memory location, and overlapping code can overwrite critical display information. Under certain conditions, this overwrite forces the system to reboot, momentarily blanking both the instrument cluster and the infotainment screen.

During the blackout, drivers lose access to essential information such as speed, safety alerts, fuel level, and battery charge, which can be unsettling even though the interruption typically lasts no longer than ten seconds.

How many incidents have been reported?

Hyundai Motor Group, Genesis’s parent company, has logged 237 reports of the problem between late September 2024 and early January 2026. No accidents, injuries, or fatalities have been linked to the glitch so far.

What is the fix?

Genesis will release a software update that permanently resolves the conflict. The update is expected to become available in mid‑March. Owners can bring their cars to an authorized Genesis dealership for a free installation, or, where supported, perform an over‑the‑air (OTA) update.

What should drivers do now?

Until the update is applied, Genesis advises owners to avoid using the HD Radio function while driving. Switching to FM/AM or disabling radio‑related features eliminates the risk of a temporary screen blackout.
