Toyota and Lexus recall 5,000+ cars in Vietnam to fix a parking software glitch that can freeze rear images. See if your car qualifies for an update.
Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) issued a recall for 2,203 imported Toyota vehicles built between July 18 2023 and September 16 2025. The batch covers four model families: 342 Toyota Alphard minivans, 913 Toyota Camry sedans, 422 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs and 526 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles.
What’s the problem?
All affected cars are equipped with a parking‑assist controller that is part of the vehicle’s 360‑degree surround‑view system. A software flaw can cause the rear‑view image to freeze for a few seconds while reversing, or to disappear entirely after the next time the electric parking brake is engaged. The issue raises the risk of a rear‑end collision.

How owners will be notified
TMV says owners of the impacted vehicles will receive a notice from their local dealership inviting them to bring the car in for inspection. During a roughly 45‑minute to one‑hour service appointment, technicians will update the parking‑assist software at no cost to the customer.
What about unofficial imports?
Even Toyota vehicles imported through unofficial channels that fall within the affected production window will be checked. Once the vehicle’s VIN is verified, the same free software update will be applied.
Lexus follows suit
Earlier this week, Lexus Vietnam announced a similar recall for nearly 3,000 Lexus cars across various models. The Lexus fleet suffers from the identical parking‑assist software glitch, which could also compromise rear‑view visibility while backing up.
What you need to do
- Check the recall notice sent by your dealership or contact your nearest Toyota or Lexus service center.
- Schedule a service appointment as soon as possible.
- Expect the update to take about an hour and it will be performed free of charge.
These proactive recalls demonstrate both brands’ commitment to safety and their willingness to address software‑related issues promptly. If you own one of the listed models, act now to ensure your vehicle’s parking‑assist system works flawlessly.
