However, for Hyundai, the statistics from the first few months of 2026 have become a significant point of concern. The Hyundai Palisade: A Focal Point of Safety Concerns
Among the affected lineup, the Palisade—Hyundai’s flagship SUV—has emerged as the center of the most severe safety and legal challenges. The largest of the recalls occurred in late January 2026, affecting 568,576 units of the Palisade from model years 2020 through 2025.
Critical Airbag Failure
The primary cause for this massive recall is a defect in the side curtain airbags. Investigations revealed that these airbags may not deploy correctly during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of injury to passengers during a side-impact crash.
Tragic Faults in the 2026 Model
Even the latest 2026 Palisade has not been exempt from scrutiny. In mid-March, a recall was issued due to a malfunction in the power-adjustable rear seats, which could potentially trap passengers. Tragically, this defect was linked to the death of a child, prompting Hyundai to issue an immediate temporary stop-sale order for the model while a permanent fix is developed.
Other Affected Models and Technical Glitches
While the Palisade accounts for the bulk of the recalls, several other popular models have also been flagged for dangerous defects throughout the first quarter of the year. These issues range from electrical glitches to critical hardware failures.
The following models have been identified with various faults:
- Ioniq 5 & Ioniq 9: Issues related to battery performance and stability.
- Tucson, Santa Fe, and Kona: Errors regarding the digital display and infotainment systems.
Although the number of vehicles affected in these specific models is lower than that of the Palisade, Hyundai acknowledges that any technical fault—whether a flickering screen or a battery malfunction—can pose a serious risk to road safety.
