WTC Automotif (WTCA), the Malaysian distributor and assembler of GAC vehicles under the Tan Chong Group, has announced plans to export its compact urban SUV, the GAC GS3 Emzoom, to Vietnam.

Local Assembly and Design

The GS3 Emzoom is built at Tan Chong’s Segambut plant in Kuala Lumpur. Its sharp, angular styling gives the B‑segment SUV a sporty edge that stands out in crowded city streets.

Engine and Performance

Power comes from a 1.5‑litre twin‑scroll turbocharged gasoline engine with direct‑injection (GDI). The unit delivers 177 hp and a peak torque of 270 Nm, routed to the front wheels through a 7‑speed wet dual‑clutch automatic transmission.

Pricing in Malaysia and Expected Vietnam Price

In Malaysia, the GS3 Emzoom is priced between RM 116,800 and RM 126,800 (approximately US$29,000‑31,500) depending on trim level. Vietnamese dealers have already begun taking deposits, with an expected launch in Q3 2024 and a price tag of roughly VND 600‑700 million (about US$25‑29 k).

Market Outlook

When it arrives, the GS3 Emzoom will be GAC’s first SUV offering in Vietnam, joining the brand’s midsize MPV lineup (M6, M8, M8 Pro). Despite its strong turbo engine and aggressive design, the model will face stiff competition from established Japanese and Korean players, as well as a rapidly expanding market for both gasoline and electric vehicles.

Industry observers suggest that GAC’s success will hinge on how well it can differentiate the Emzoom in a segment where brand loyalty and after‑sales support are critical.
