Mazda introduces Zinc Green Metallic for the 2027 MX-5 Miata, reviving a classic roadster hue that shifts from teal to steel under different light. Discover the new shade today!
At the Karuizawa Fan Meeting 2026, Mazda unveiled a striking new colour for the upcoming 2027 MX-5 Miata – Zinc Green Metallic. It marks the first time the beloved roadster has offered a true green shade in more than a decade.
What makes Zinc Green Metallic special?
Depending on lighting conditions, the paint can transition between vivid teal, muted gray and a subtle metallic sheen. In bright sunshine the hue glints with an emerald‑like luster, while overcast skies or low‑light environments mute it to a sophisticated industrial gray.

Design inspiration and development
Mazda’s engineers set out to create a colour that feels both mechanical and soft, echoing the MX‑5’s blend of lightweight agility and flowing design. The idea stemmed from zinc‑based anti‑corrosion coatings commonly used in outdoor metal structures, hence the name “Zinc Green Metallic.”
A colour for the understated enthusiast
According to the manufacturer, the shade targets drivers who want their sports car to stand out without shouting. It sits between the brand’s bold reds – like Soul Red Crystal – and brighter yellows such as Zircon Sand Metallic, offering a refined yet distinctive look that shifts with the sun.
Connecting past and present
Green has a long history with the MX‑5 lineage. The original NA model featured a Neo Green finish, while the NB and NC generations offered deep or metallic blues and greens. Since the ND generation launched in 2015, Mazda has focused on neutral tones and its signature red, leaving green absent for years. Introducing Zinc Green Metallic not only adds a fresh exterior option but also pays homage to the model’s heritage – Mazda has developed over 80 green hues across its vehicle portfolio.

Future possibilities
Beyond the MX‑5, Mazda sees Zinc Green Metallic as a “global colour” suitable for everything from compact sports cars to crossovers and SUVs. Expect to see the shade appear on other Mazda models in the coming years.
Why the MX‑5 remains relevant
Today’s MX‑5 is the world’s best‑selling roadster and one of the longest‑running production sports cars. The current ND generation, now in its 11th year, continues to captivate enthusiasts with its lightweight chassis, rear‑wheel drive layout, and pure driving experience. While many rivals shift toward electrification, the MX‑5 stays true to its roots with a small‑displacement, naturally aspirated engine.
