Bentley is preparing to carve a new path in the world of sustainable luxury. The iconic British automaker is nearing a historic milestone with the development of its first-ever all-electric vehicle, expected to make its grand debut by late 2027.

While many enthusiasts expected Bentley’s first EV to be a flagship powerhouse, the brand is taking a more strategic approach. The upcoming model is designed to be an “entry-level” offering within Bentley’s ultra-luxury lineup, making the prestige of the winged B more accessible to a new generation of drivers.

The Arrival of the Urban Luxury SUV

According to Mike Rocco, President and CEO of Bentley Americas, this new “urban SUV” will begin to emerge from the shadows with teasers starting late this year. The official market launch is slated for approximately the third quarter of 2027.

While Bentley is still finalizing its pricing strategy, Rocco indicated that the vehicle will be positioned at a more accessible price point than the brand’s current offerings. This move signals a shift in strategy to capture a broader segment of the luxury market without compromising the brand’s legendary exclusivity.

Designed for the City, Not the Wild

Unlike the Bentley Bentayga, which is renowned for its off-road capabilities and rugged versatility, the Barnato (as the model is expected to be called) is purpose-built for the cityscape. This crossover will prioritize smooth pavement and urban agility over trail-blazing.

This city-centric focus is backed by strong market data. User surveys conducted in key luxury hubs, such as Miami and Los Angeles, show an overwhelming appetite for the vehicle, with 80% of participants expressing a readiness to purchase this electric masterpiece.

Luxury First, Electric Second

The launch comes at a precarious time for the industry. The luxury EV market has shown signs of cooling, with high-profile models like the Porsche Taycan and Rolls-Royce Spectre experiencing recent sales dips. Bentley, however, is navigating this challenge with a unique philosophy.

Rather than marketing the car as a “tech gadget” or focusing solely on its electric powertrain, Bentley intends to lead with luxury. The goal is to create a true Bentley experience where the electric motor is a seamless part of the performance, not the only selling point.

“Customers will know it’s an electric vehicle, but that won’t be the main highlight,” emphasizes Mike Rocco. “This is a completely new Bentley urban SUV.”

By focusing on craftsmanship, heritage, and an unmatched driving experience, Bentley aims to prove that the transition to electric is not just about sustainability—it’s about elevating luxury to new heights.
