Geely’s Lynk & Co 10+ challenges BYD with record-breaking 900V charging speeds. Discover the future of EV efficiency here!

The global race for electric vehicle (EV) supremacy has just entered a new gear. Only a month after BYD unveiled its next-generation battery and MW fast-charging technology, Geely has fired back with a stunning announcement via its Lynk & Co brand.

Record-Breaking Charging Speeds

According to test data released on March 7, the new Lynk & Co 10+ is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in EV efficiency. Built on a cutting-edge 900V high-voltage platform and powered by Geely’s proprietary Energee Golden Brick LFP battery, the vehicle has achieved mind-blowing charging milestones:

  • 10% to 70% SOC: Just 4 minutes and 22 seconds.
  • 10% to 80% SOC: Just 5 minutes and 32 seconds.
  • 10% to 97% SOC: Just 8 minutes and 42 seconds.

To put this into perspective, these figures edge out the results from BYD’s MW fast-charging system, which clocks 10%-70% in 5 minutes and 10%-97% in 9 minutes. During testing, the Lynk & Co 10+ reached a maximum charging power of 1,100 kW, impressively maintaining a rate above 500 kW even after the battery hit 80% state-of-charge (SOC).

The Infrastructure Battle: Geely vs. BYD

While the performance numbers are dazzling, the real-world application depends on infrastructure. These tests were conducted using Zeekr’s V4 MW fast-charging stations. While Geely has not yet announced the mass deployment date for these specific chargers, their existing network is formidable.

As of late February, Geely’s self-built charging network includes 2,103 stations and 10,212 charging piles across 215 cities. This includes over 6,200 stations at highway service areas and more than 1,200 ultra-fast 800V stations.

However, BYD is playing a high-volume game. The company recently installed its 5,000th MW fast-charging station and aims to expand to 20,000 stations by the end of the year to meet the growing demand for large-scale, rapid charging.

More Than Just a Battery

The Lynk & Co 10+ is not merely a showcase for charging tech. The vehicle features significant upgrades to its battery cooling system, which is critical for sustaining such extreme charging speeds without degrading the cells. This 900V architecture is also being integrated into the Zeekr 001, which can now charge from 10% to 80% in just 7 minutes.

Beyond the electronics, the 10+ is a performance beast. With a staggering 912 horsepower and a top speed of 240 km/h, it is designed for those who want track-ready performance combined with futuristic convenience.

The Next Frontier: Europe

Currently, the Lynk & Co 10+ is slated for a China-first release. However, with Lynk & Co already established in European markets and BYD planning to bring its MW charging technology to the continent, Europe is poised to become the next major battleground for ultra-fast EV innovation.

As Geely and BYD continue to leapfrog each other, the ultimate winner will be the consumer, as “range anxiety” is replaced by “charging convenience” that rivals the time it takes to fill a traditional gas tank.
