The automotive landscape is shifting, and the latest collaboration between tech titan Huawei and the SGMW (SAIC-GM-Wuling) joint venture is set to shake things up. At a recent technology showcase on April 7, the duo officially opened early orders for the Huajing S, a sophisticated 6-seater SUV that marks a deep strategic partnership aimed at dominating the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.

A Commanding Presence and Timeless Design

The Huajing S is designed to make a statement. With a length of 5,235 mm and a generous wheelbase of 3,105 mm, it offers a sprawling interior that rivals some of the most prestigious luxury SUVs on the market. Its exterior is a blend of futurism and practicality, featuring a striking ring-shaped seamless light array and a closed-off grille that emphasizes its modern, aerodynamic profile.

Interestingly, while many electric and hybrid vehicles are moving toward flush, hidden door handles, the Huajing S retains traditional mechanical handles—a nod to reliability and tactile familiarity that some drivers still prefer.

The Huawei Tech Ecosystem: A Smart Cockpit

What truly sets the Huajing S apart is the integration of Huawei’s cutting-edge intelligence. The vehicle isn’t just a mode of transport; it’s a mobile smart device. Key technological highlights include:

  • Huawei Qiankun: An advanced smart driving system designed to handle complex road conditions with precision.
  • HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit: A seamless, intuitive interface that synchronizes the driving experience with the broader Huawei ecosystem.
  • Huawei Limera: Innovative interior laser vision technology that enhances cabin monitoring and safety.

First-Class Comfort for Every Passenger

The interior is configured in a 2+2+2 layout, prioritizing individual comfort. The second row is particularly luxurious, featuring independent captain’s chairs equipped with foldable workstations and a ceiling-mounted entertainment screen. For those who prefer to be chauffeured, a dedicated “boss button” allows the rear passenger to easily adjust the front passenger seat.

Versatility is also a key focus. When the third-row seats are folded flat, the Huajing S transforms into a cargo powerhouse with a massive luggage capacity of 1,268 liters, making it ideal for long family road trips or sporting equipment.

Performance: Power Meets Efficiency

Under the hood, the Huajing S utilizes the Lingxi Power 3.0 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) system. By pairing a 1.5T turbocharged engine with high-performance electric motors, the SUV delivers a combined output of 518 horsepower and a robust 620 Nm of torque.

To cater to different driving needs, the vehicle offers two battery options:

  • 31 kWh Battery: Providing an electric-only range of approximately 130 km.
  • 41.9 kWh Battery: Extending the pure EV range to 175 km.

The ride quality is further refined by a sophisticated chassis setup, featuring double-wishbone suspension in the front and multi-link suspension in the rear, complemented by electronic variable damping for a smooth, controlled glide across any terrain.

Market Outlook: A New Challenger in Luxury

Scheduled for a full market release in the first half of 2026, the Huajing S is SGMW’s strategic move into the high-end luxury segment. By leveraging Huawei’s software prowess and SGMW’s manufacturing scale, the Huajing S is positioned as a formidable competitor to established luxury NEV players like Li Auto and AITO.
