Stellantis is recalling over 1.3 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models worldwide due to an electrical fault that can cause spontaneous fires. Find out how to keep your SUV safe.
Stellantis has issued an urgent, worldwide recall affecting more than 1.33 million Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles. The recall covers models produced from mid‑2020 through the end of 2024, spanning model years 2021‑2025.
How many vehicles are affected?
The United States accounts for the bulk of the recall, with 1,076,999 units (787,887 Wranglers and 289,112 Gladiators). Canada follows with roughly 106,000 vehicles, Mexico with about 23,000, and an additional 125,000 units are distributed across other international markets, including Vietnam.

Root cause of the fire risk
Investigations by Stellantis engineers and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) pinpointed an electrical fault in the connector of the electric‑hydraulic power‑steering pump (EHPSP). A manufacturing defect can leave the plug insufficiently secured or allow it to loosen over time. When this happens, abnormal resistance generates excess heat, melting the protective sheath and, in rare cases, igniting the engine compartment.
Incidents reported so far
To date, Stellantis has logged at least 72 field reports linked to the defect. Of those, 35 involve confirmed fires originating from the steering‑pump connector, and one driver suffered minor injuries. No fatal accidents have been recorded.
What owners should do immediately
- Park the vehicle outdoors, away from buildings, other cars, or flammable structures.
- Watch for a sudden increase in steering effort or a warning on the central display that reads “Service Power Steering” or indicates low pressure.
- Schedule a service appointment as soon as possible; the fix will be performed free of charge.
Impact on the Vietnamese market
All Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators that were sold in Vietnam fall within the recall scope. The local distributor, Thaco Auto, recently took over the Jeep and Ram brands from Stellantis. Thaco offers three Wrangler trims—Rubicon, Sahara and Sport—priced between VND 2.99 billion and VND 3.49 billion. The Gladiator Rubicon was listed at VND 4.24 billion.
Next steps
Stellantis and independent safety agencies will continue monitoring the situation. Owners are urged to follow the recall instructions promptly to prevent any potential fire incidents.
