After unveiling a slew of new car brands for the Vietnamese market, Tasco Auto is accelerating its push to dominate the local automotive scene. The latest milestone? Launching the VETC Charging Station app, a one‑stop solution that lets EV drivers locate, navigate to, activate and pay for charging at nearly 200 stations nationwide.

Expanding the Brand Portfolio

In September 2023, Tasco announced the full acquisition of SVC Holdings, gaining control of Savico – one of Vietnam’s leading car distributors. This deal gave Tasco the rights to sell a wide range of marques, from Toyota and Ford to Hyundai, Suzuki, VinFast and Volvo.

At the start of 2024, the group rebranded SVC Holdings as Tasco Auto and refreshed its visual identity to align with its expanding network. By July 2024, Tasco secured 100% ownership of Sweden Auto, the exclusive importer of Volvo cars in Vietnam, opening the door to additional Geely‑owned brands.

Beyond Volvo, Tasco already distributes Lynk & Co, a fellow Geely subsidiary, and is preparing to introduce Geely Auto, Lotus, Zeekr and possibly the all‑electric Polestar to Vietnamese consumers.

The VETC Charging Platform

The newly released VETC Charging Station app integrates four nationwide charging networks, allowing users to search for stations by location, power output and availability, get turn‑by‑turn directions, start a session via QR code, and settle fees directly through their VETC account. Real‑time data on energy consumption, charging time and cost are displayed on the screen.

This functionality rounds out Tasco’s broader VETC ecosystem, which already includes electronic toll collection, vehicle insurance, roadside assistance, car‑sharing, and the Carpla service‑center network.

A Full‑Service Car Ecosystem

From purchasing a vehicle to servicing, insuring, rescuing and even charging it, Tasco aims to keep customers within a single, seamless platform. A buyer can acquire a car through Tasco’s online marketplace, receive a pre‑installed VETC toll tag, enjoy bundled insurance, and later drive to any Carpla workshop for maintenance. When it’s time for an upgrade, the same platform facilitates trade‑ins and resale.

Such an “all‑in‑one” model is rare in Vietnam. While other distributors like Thaco and TC Motor handle multiple brands, they lack an integrated suite of digital services comparable to VETC‑Carpla.

Competitive Landscape

The influx of Geely‑owned brands – Lynk & Co, Geely Auto, Lotus, Zeekr and potentially Polestar – intensifies competition not only among Chinese manufacturers but also against established Japanese, American and Korean players. Lynk & Co, for example, has found traction with its B‑segment SUV, the 06, while the flagship Lynk & Co 900 commands a premium price of VND 3.069 billion, the highest for a Chinese‑made car in Vietnam.

Geely’s line‑up now spans gasoline, hybrid and fully electric models, from the compact Coolray to the larger D‑segment SUVs. These offerings, combined with cutting‑edge technologies such as Geely’s EM‑i hybrid system (EX5) and EM‑P platform (Lynk & Co 08 and 900), demonstrate the trust the Chinese group places in Tasco as its Vietnamese partner.

Challenges Ahead

Despite its ambitious roadmap, Tasco must prove that its ecosystem delivers real value to consumers, not just marketing hype. The true test will be whether buyers experience smoother transactions, lower total‑cost‑of‑ownership and hassle‑free charging in everyday use.

Moreover, the market is becoming crowded. New entrants like BYD, Omoda and Jaecoo are also vying for a slice of Vietnam’s rapidly growing EV segment, raising the stakes for Tasco’s differentiated services.

What’s Next?

If Tasco can flawlessly integrate sales, after‑sales, finance and charging into a single digital experience, it could claim a leadership position in Vietnam’s automotive future. The journey will require time, sustained investment and continuous customer feedback.

While competitors will soon challenge any early advantage, the ultimate winner may be the Vietnamese driver who gains access to a truly comprehensive, trustworthy car ecosystem.
