After a sluggish start to 2026, several models that struggled earlier this year have suddenly picked up momentum in Vietnam’s automotive market. Aggressive price cuts, attractive incentives and tax relief for hybrids are reshaping buying decisions, giving a fresh lift to both electric and conventional vehicles.

Ford Mustang Mach‑E

Ford’s first fully electric SUV debuted in Vietnam in August 2025 with a premium price tag of around VND 2.6 billion, which limited its appeal. Only 22 units were sold between September and December 2025, and just one vehicle was delivered in February 2026. In April, Ford slashed the list price by VND 900 million. The impact was immediate: 49 Mustang Mach‑E units were sold in the month the new price took effect, followed by 14 more in May. By the first two months of Q2, the model’s average monthly sales rose to 31.5 units, eclipsing the total it sold during the final four months of 2025.

Suzuki Swift

The compact hatchback saw a steady decline in the first quarter, but demand rebounded sharply in May when 63 Swifts were sold – the highest monthly figure for the model in 2026 so far.

Toyota Corolla Cross

The B‑segment SUV recorded 951 deliveries in March, yet its three‑month average in Q1 fell to 485 units. In Q2, the average jumped to nearly 739 units per month, a growth of more than 52%. The surge is largely credited to Vietnam’s special consumption tax cut for hybrid vehicles, making the 1.8 HEV version (now priced at VND 865 million, down VND 40 million) more competitive than its gasoline counterpart.

Toyota Hilux

After briefly overtaking the Ford Ranger in February, the Hilux has settled into a strong rhythm, delivering over 660 units per month across the latest three reporting periods. This marks a dramatic improvement from the 292‑unit monthly average recorded throughout 2025. The launch of a new generation with a standard 2.8‑liter diesel engine and modest pricing adjustments has helped sustain the momentum.

Toyota Wigo

Supply‑chain hiccups kept the Indonesian‑built A‑segment hatchback off dealership lots in April, resulting in zero sales. Once the logistics bottleneck was cleared, the model sold three units in May – a modest but encouraging sign that the Wigo’s availability is returning.

Key Takeaways

The recent sales rebound underscores how critical ownership cost is in Vietnam’s market. Manufacturers that quickly adjust pricing, offer tax‑friendly incentives, or resolve supply constraints are seeing immediate upside. For consumers, the wave of discounts and hybrid‑friendly policies translates into more choices and better value.

As competition intensifies, the next few quarters will reveal which of these revitalised models can sustain their momentum and become long‑term favorites among Vietnamese drivers.
