Ruf’s One‑Off Creation

While Ruf is best known for re‑imagining the iconic 911, the German tuner chose the 928 platform for this special order in 1989. Starting with a factory‑spec Porsche 928 S4 body‑in‑white, engineers reshaped the chassis, upgraded the suspension and installed a hand‑tuned 5.0‑liter V8 that pushes 360 hp and 480 Nm of torque.

Design and Luxury Details

The car’s exterior is cloaked in a deep, glossy black finish, contrasting with a wine‑red leather interior. Features include electric‑adjustable sunroof, rear‑seat climate control, cruise control, and a dedicated climate zone for the back seats.

Unlike most Ruf‑built models that retain a manual gearbox, the 928R was envisioned as a grand‑tourer, so it received a four‑speed automatic transmission – a rare choice for the era.

After Lee Kun‑hee’s Passing

Following Lee’s death in 2020, Ruf reacquired the vehicle and performed a comprehensive restoration in 2021. The work added 19‑inch wheels, carbon‑ceramic brakes and a new exhaust system, while preserving the original mileage – just 2,523 km after 37 years on the road.

Auction Preview

Experts estimate a “hammer price” in the US$400,000‑500,000 range, but the car’s unique provenance – a bespoke supercar built for the head of the Samsung empire – could drive the final figure much higher.

Stay tuned for the auction results and discover how this time‑capsule of automotive history may change hands.
