Discover how E10 gasoline, compatible with over 90% of Vietnam’s cars, cuts CO and HC emissions. Learn the benefits and where to find quality fuel today.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has released a draft resolution confirming that the new E10 bio‑fuel blend can be used in more than 90 % of gasoline‑powered vehicles on the road today, without any engine modifications.
What is E10 gasoline?
E10 is a blend of 10 % ethanol (E100) and 90 % conventional gasoline. The ethanol used in Vietnam contains about 34.7 % oxygen and a high octane rating of roughly 108 RON, which helps improve combustion efficiency.
High compatibility with existing vehicles
Scientific testing shows that over 90 % of cars, motorcycles and light‑duty trucks in Vietnam can run on E10 without any changes to the engine or fuel system. This means drivers can switch to the greener blend immediately.

Environmental benefits
Using E10 can lower carbon‑monoxide (CO) emissions by 20‑30 % and reduce hydrocarbons (HC) by 10‑20 %, contributing to cleaner air in urban areas.
Supply outlook
By April 2026, MOIT expects a domestic E100 production capacity of about 84,200 m³, enough to blend roughly 910,000 m³ of gasoline. The mix will consist of 15 % E5 (RON 92) and 85 % E10 (RON 95), covering about 91 % of the nation’s monthly fuel demand.
Historically, E5 accounted for around 40 % of total gasoline consumption, but its share has fallen to 15‑20 % due to price differences and consumer preferences.
What drivers need to know
- Buy E10 only from reputable fuel stations that guarantee the correct blend ratio and octane rating.
- Avoid adding unverified additives or mixing other fuels, which can damage engines.
- Maintain regular service intervals as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer to ensure optimal performance.
With its wide compatibility and lower emissions, E10 is set to become Vietnam’s dominant gasoline blend, offering a simple step toward a more sustainable transport sector.
