Explore the leaked specs of the Hyundai Ioniq V, featuring EREV options and 800V fast charging. See how Hyundai is redefining the China EV market.
Following its initial appearance as a concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto China show, the Hyundai Ioniq V is now stepping out of the shadows. New regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have officially leaked the technical specifications of this highly anticipated sedan.
A Strategic Powerhouse: EV and EREV Options
Developed specifically for the competitive Chinese market, the Ioniq V is built on Hyundai’s acclaimed E-GMP platform. In a strategic move to appeal to a wider range of drivers, Hyundai is offering two distinct powertrain options:
- Battery Electric Vehicle (EV): A fully electric drivetrain for zero-emission driving.
- Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): A hybrid setup where a small internal combustion engine acts as a generator to charge the battery, significantly reducing range anxiety.
To ensure minimal downtime, the Ioniq V supports 800V ultra-fast charging, placing it among the most efficient vehicles in its class.
Sleek, Aerodynamic Design
While the Chinese EV market is currently dominated by boxy SUVs, Hyundai is taking a different approach. The Ioniq V features a low-slung, fastback sedan silhouette that emphasizes elegance and aerodynamics.
The vehicle’s dimensions are impressive, measuring 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm—making it very similar in size to the global Ioniq 6. Key exterior highlights include:
- Frameless doors for a modern, premium aesthetic.
- Large aerodynamic wheels to optimize efficiency and range.
- “Star-streak” taillights that span the entire width of the rear, creating a futuristic light signature.
A Futuristic Digital Cockpit
Inside, the Ioniq V is a masterclass in digital integration. The centerpiece is a stunning 27-inch ultra-thin 4K display. The ambiance is further elevated by interior lighting inspired by nebulas, creating a calming, cosmic atmosphere for passengers.
Under the hood of the infotainment system lies the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. This hardware supports a suite of AI-driven features powered by Baidu and Volcano Engine, along with a cutting-edge “Cyber Eye” Head-Up Display (HUD) that projects critical information directly onto the windshield.
Cutting-Edge Autonomy and Market Strategy
To compete with local tech giants in China, Hyundai has integrated Momenta’s L2+ autonomous driving system. This feature provides advanced driver-assistance capabilities, essential for navigating the dense urban environments of Chinese megacities.
The Ioniq V is just the beginning of a broader offensive. Hyundai Motor CEO Jose Munoz recently announced an ambitious plan to launch 20 new models in China over the next five years. This roadmap includes a diverse mix of EVs, EREVs, hybrids, and traditional internal combustion engines, marking a significant shift toward a localized strategy to regain momentum in the world’s largest auto market.
