After months of speculation, Toyota has officially launched the 2026 Hilux in Vietnam. The new model arrives in three trims – Standard (632 million VND), Pro (706 million VND) and the top‑end Trailhunter (903 million VND) – all powered by a 2.8 L turbo‑charged diesel.

Bold New Design
The 2026 Hilux looks younger and more muscular. A 3‑D perforated grille, Bi‑LED headlamps with a thin daytime‑running light strip, and a large “Toyota” lettering on the tailgate give it a contemporary Japanese vibe. Bodywork is longer than 5 m, with fresh 17‑inch (Pro) and 18‑inch (Trailhunter) alloy wheels, black‑trimmed accents and a higher roofline.

Powertrain & Performance
Under the hood sits a 2.8 L turbo diesel that replaces the previous 2.4 L unit. It delivers up to 201 hp and torque ranging from 420 Nm to 500 Nm, paired with a six‑speed manual or optional six‑speed automatic. The chassis measures 5 320 mm × 1 855 mm × 1 815 mm with a 3 085 mm wheelbase and 312 mm ground clearance.

Tech, Safety & Comfort
Higher trims feature a dual 12.3‑in digital instrument cluster and a 12‑in central infotainment screen. The Trailhunter adds leather‑upholstered seats with 10‑way electric adjustment, a 360° camera, blind‑spot monitoring, rear cross‑traffic alert, and the full Toyota Safety Sense suite (pre‑collision warning, lane‑keep assist, adaptive cruise, etc.). A two‑zone automatic climate control with PM2.5 filtration is standard on the top model.

Pricing & Competitive Landscape
With prices from 632 million to 903 million VND, the Hilux is positioned below the current Ford Ranger (707 million–1.04 billion VND) and rivals Mitsubishi Triton (655 million–924 million VND) and Isuzu D‑Max (650 million–880 million VND). Its 2.8 L diesel makes it one of the few midsize pickups in Vietnam still offering a high‑displacement engine.

- Standard – 632 M VND, 6‑speed manual
- Pro – 706 M VND, 6‑speed auto, 12.3‑in digital cluster
- Trailhunter – 903 M VND, 6‑speed auto, leather seats, full safety suite
Market Outlook
Ford Ranger held a 69 % share of Vietnam’s pickup market in 2025, selling 18 692 units. The Hilux fell to third place with modest sales toward the end of the year. Analysts expect the Pro trim to become the sales driver for the new Hilux, potentially narrowing the gap with Mitsubishi Triton, though overtaking Ford Ranger will remain a challenge.

Environmental regulations are tightening, and while the 2.8 L diesel meets Euro 5 standards, consumer interest in hybrid and electric alternatives is rising. Toyota’s ability to price competitively and maintain diesel compliance will be crucial for a 2026 sales surge.

Will the refreshed Hilux create enough of a ripple to shift Vietnam’s pickup hierarchy? Time will tell.
