Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s monthly sales fell from 3,000 to just 45 units, highlighting challenges for the high‑performance EV. Read the full story now.

When the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra hit the market on 27 February 2025, the hype was palpable. Priced at ¥529,900 (about $75,700) and equipped with a triple‑motor layout delivering a staggering 1,548 horsepower, the sedan could sprint from 0‑100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds and top out at 350 km/h.

Initial Surge Followed by a Steep Decline

March 2025 marked the high point: 3,101 units rolled out of factories. For the next five months (April‑August), monthly sales hovered between 2,000 and 3,000 cars. However, the momentum evaporated fast. September saw only 488 cars sold, October dropped to 130, November fell below 100, and by December the figure dipped under 50 units per month.

Cumulative Numbers vs. Monthly Reality

By the end of the year, total SU7 Ultra deliveries topped 10,000 units, technically meeting the original target set by CEO Lei Jun. Yet more than half of those were shipped in the first half of 2025, leaving the latter six months with a paltry ~3,000 vehicles.

Controversies That Dampened Demand

Shortly after launch, the SU7 Ultra became embroiled in several disputes: misleading advertising claims, demands for full pre‑payment, and reports of doors failing to open after a crash. While Xiaomi has addressed many of these issues, the negative press appears to have contributed to the sales slump.

Other Xiaomi Models Thrive

In stark contrast, Xiaomi’s broader EV lineup continued to grow. December 2025 records show the standard SU7 sedan moving 11,123 units, and the YU7 crossover topping 39,000. The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) placed Xiaomi among the top‑10 new‑energy vehicle manufacturers for 2025, with 411,837 total units sold – a 200.9% increase year‑on‑year.

Ambitious Outlook for 2026

Undeterred, Lei Jun announced a bold target of 550,000 EVs for 2026. Given the strong demand for family‑oriented models, the niche SU7 Ultra, focused on ultra‑high performance, won’t significantly sway the company’s overall growth trajectory.

What This Means for the Market

The SU7 Ultra’s tumble underscores the challenges of sustaining ultra‑premium EV sales in a market that still prioritises practicality and price. While the model showcases Xiaomi’s engineering chops, its limited appeal highlights the importance of a diversified product mix.
