Explore Toyota’s new Land Cruiser upgrade that revitalises older Prado models with premium looks, rugged accessories and eco‑friendly materials – discover more now!
The name Land Cruiser has always carried a badge of prestige for Toyota. While the brand rolls out the dazzling 250 Series, it’s also turning its attention to the beloved 150 Series – the generation produced from 2009 to 2023 and marketed in the United States as the Lexus GX.
Introducing the Newscape Refurbishment Programme
Launched under the Newscape banner, the programme offers owners of older Prado 150 models an official, factory‑approved “makeover” that completely refreshes both exterior and interior styling. The concept first wowed visitors at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 and, after strong consumer interest, will debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.

Partners Behind the Makeover
The project is a collaboration between Toyota’s Conic Pro division, outdoor‑apparel giant The North Face, and biotech innovator Spiber. Beyond pure aesthetics, the goal is to extend the vehicle’s useful life, cutting waste and reducing the environmental impact of buying a brand‑new SUV.
Two Distinct Styling Packages
- Graphite Gray – a rugged look featuring matte‑black front and rear bumpers, widened wheel arches, and vivid mango‑orange accent lighting on the fog lamps and rear tow hook.
- Meld Grey – a more refined appearance with body‑tone bumpers, subtle matte‑black trim, and striking metallic‑gold highlights.
Both versions come equipped for adventure: roof rails, a rear climbing ladder, a mudguard, and a fuel‑tank cover emblazoned with The North Face logo.
Performance and Comfort Upgrades
Each kit includes 17‑inch matte‑black alloy wheels wrapped in all‑terrain tires, enhancing off‑road capability. Inside, the standout feature is the new seat upholstery made from Spiber’s “Brewed Protein” fiber – a sustainable, biodegradable material that carries The North Face branding. Toyota also designed a fresh floor‑mat set to complement the new interior.

Eligibility, Pricing and Availability
The Newscape upgrade is available in Japan starting 7 March 2026, exclusively for the TX specification of the Prado 150 built between September 2017 and April 2024. It is limited to models that originally came with black‑fabric seats.
Pricing details are as follows:
- Graphite Gray – ¥3,960,000 (≈ US $25,300)
- Meld Grey – ¥3,850,000 (≈ US $24,600)
When paired with the cost of purchasing a used Prado 150 (roughly ¥4,000,000 or US $25,500), the total outlay reaches about ¥8,000,000 (≈ US $51,200). This figure far exceeds the starting price of a brand‑new Land Cruiser 250 (US $33,300) and even the higher‑priced Land Cruiser 300 models sold in Japan.
Why It Matters
Newscape demonstrates how major automakers can blend luxury, sustainability and rugged performance to give older vehicles a viable second life. For Land Cruiser enthusiasts who crave premium off‑road capability without the carbon footprint of a fresh purchase, the programme offers a compelling, albeit pricey, alternative.
