BYD has pulled the Sealion 6 SUV from its Chinese lineup, shifting focus to overseas markets. Learn how this impacts buyers and what’s next – read more now!
Chinese automaker BYD has quietly removed the mid‑size Sealion 6 SUV from its domestic product catalogue. The model no longer appears on the official Ocean Network page of BYD China, confirming the end of its local sales.
From Song Plus to Sealion 6 – A Brief History
Back in October 2025, BYD discontinued the Song Plus—its Chinese counterpart to the Sealion 6—and consolidated the two under the Sealion 6 name. Today, both the Song Plus and the Sealion 6 listings have vanished from the Chinese website.
What’s Next? A Global‑First Naming Strategy
Local media suggest the company will merge the two variants into a single “Sealion 06” model. This aligns the C‑segment SUV’s name with the branding used for export markets, paving the way for a unified international identity. As of now, the Sealion 06 has not been launched in China.
BYD’s Wider Product Restructuring
According to CarnewsChina, the move is part of BYD’s comprehensive product overhaul. The automaker aims to introduce sharper exterior designs and the latest technology platform for Chinese consumers, while simultaneously streamlining its global portfolio.

Shifting Sales Focus to Overseas Markets
The decision arrives at a time when BYD’s overseas momentum is accelerating. In 2025, the company recorded a historic milestone: more than one million vehicles sold outside its home market, out of a total of 4.55 million units worldwide.
December 2024 alone saw international deliveries jump 145 % compared with the same month a year earlier, highlighting BYD’s growing reliance on foreign markets as domestic growth begins to plateau.
No Impact on Vietnam or Other Export Markets
Even though the Sealion 6 is withdrawn in China, the model remains available elsewhere. In Vietnam, the SUV is imported directly from BYD’s Thai plant and marketed as the Sealion 06.
The Vietnamese version is equipped with a plug‑in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that combines BYD’s fifth‑generation DM‑i system, a 1.5 L gasoline engine, and a 160 kW electric motor. The combined range reaches up to 1,670 km.
For pure‑electric operation, the vehicle utilizes an 800 V architecture, a 12‑in‑1 drivetrain, and supports fast charging up to 237 kW. Two trim levels are offered, priced between VND 839 million and VND 936 million.
Bottom Line
BYD’s withdrawal of the Sealion 6 from its Chinese lineup signals a strategic pivot toward international growth and a streamlined global model line‑up. While Chinese buyers lose one option, the model’s future abroad—and its advanced PHEV technology—remains intact.
